Normal Hamster Serum (NHS) is required as a culture medium supplement for Baby Hamster Kidney cells (BHK-21) — the WHO-recommended cell line for rabies vaccine production and a key substrate for FMD vaccine manufacturing. Species-specific hamster serum improves BHK-21 monolayer formation, viability, and virus susceptibility compared to FBS. NHS is also used as a negative control matrix in hamster model ELISA assays and as a supplement for primary hamster cell cultures. EU origin, sterile filtered 0.2 µm.
